A Dictionary of Statistics (Oxford Paperback Reference)
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (October, 2002)
Authors: Graham Upton and Ian Cook
Average review score:

accessible dictionary of terms and famous statisticians
Two English statisticians have compiled this list of terms, abbreviations, famous probabilists and statisticians that is accessible to experts, beginners and practitioners in all fields that use statistical methods and probability. It is very current and competitive with other dictionaries on this topic including the one that Cambidge University Press puts out. A nice feature of the handy paperback book is its low price. Published in 2002 it is the most current dictionary of its type and includes terms from computational statistics and operations research. So you will find terms like simplex methods and figures from operations research like George Dantzig in addition to famous statisticians such as R. A. Fisher and probabilists like Markov and Kolmogorov. It also contains many names of statistical societies, software packages and professional journals and their acronyms.

The Cold White North
What would you do if you lived in a world where every year the winter became colder, the food more scarce, and wild bands of marauding warriors came to steal your children, food, and lives. This is the world of Marika as she struggles to find her place in it. Witches, wizards, and warriors - All the making's of a great tale. I highly recommend this and all the books in the darkwar trilogy.

Dubbel Dutch : a practical guide for foreign students of Dutch, with numerous examples and comparisons = praktische handleiding voor anderstaligen die Nederlands leren, met vele voorbeelden en vergelijkingen

excellent book for browsing
Full of interesting facts, this an in-depth book on the complexities of the Dutch language that is still a good fun read. Not one to read front to back, more one to dip into now and then so you can "gosh! now I get it!" Even better if you also speak German, as it tips you off about some of the errors you are likely to make as an English-German speaker learning Dutch. Doesn't shirk at giving you the ever-useful info about swearing and euphemisms! I keep it in ...and Dutch and English speakers alike come out of it looking enlightened (in more than one way, that is...)

Dungeness Crabs and Blackberry Cobblers: The Northwest Heritage Cookbook (Knopf Cooks American Series)
Published in Paperback by Knopf (February, 1996)
Authors: Janie Hibler and Jane Hibler
Average review score:

Intruiging cookbook with a bit of history
This book is a must for any cook who loves to read cookbooks in their spare time. All of the recipes are straight-forward, yet most of them are very unique combinations ie. walla-walla sweet onion jam, cheddar cheese soup with peppered bacon and ale. Each page also has a bit of Northwest history and accompanying photos, which are quite enjoyable. As Seattle-ite I can vouch that these recipes really do use locally available ingredients, but I think that cooks everywhere would enjoy and adapt these recipes. Only drawback is that pictures and text are black and white only.

A must-read for anyone involved in small town ministry
This book by first-time author Larry Farris is a definite read for anyone interested in the sociological perspective of small town ministry.
